This month's Little Penang Street Market, which takes place on the last Sunday of each month, will have the special programme for Tohoku, Japan.
This will be organized by Japanese volunteers including me with the initiative by a lady who is originally from Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture of Japan.
Our programme is as follows:
1) Fund-raising Sales (Japanese Food and Sweets)
2) Senbazuru Project (Japanese Origami paper craft workshop)
3) Message Cards to people in Tohoku
Medical and material assistance is needed now, but we think moral support is also very important.
We believe warm messages from afar like Penang can encourage the people in Tohoku
Senbazuru means a bunch of thousand of Cranes made with Japanese Origami (Paper-folding crafts) and traditionally in Japan made and sent as gift to the people in difficulties such as sickness or disaster like this time. Senbazuru is a symbol of love to encourage people in suffer to overcome their difficulties. We will teach the participants how to fold a paper into a crane.
We also prepare message cards for participants to write messages to people in Tohoku.
Senbazuru, Message Cards and The fund will be sent to Japan Red Cross (or through Japan Consulate in Penang - TBA). After we complete the remittance of the fund, we will send emails to donators with official receipt.
Pls drop by Little Penang this coming Sunday, if you stay in Penang, or nearby Penang, or if you happen to be in Penang.
Also it will be great if you can inform your friends about this event.
We will look forward to seeing you on this coming Sunday at Little Penang!!
